More than 30 years ago, Edda Martinez started out of her family kitchen, designing cakes with originality and style. She has since turned Edda’s into South Florida’s premier specialty cake company, and a household name. Edda’s passion for baking cakes began when she was a young child and would watch her aunt in the kitchen. It was not so much a hobby, as it was an artistic outlet that would stay with her well into adulthood.

02.aboutussBorn in Havana, Cuba, Edda and her family exiled to Miami in 1960. A year later, her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Edda earned her high school diploma. Her family split their time between Atlanta and New York, where Edda met her husband, Eduardo.  In 1967, Edda and her husband moved back to Miami where she further developed her love for the kitchen by taking cooking and baking classes. After years of decorating cakes for her own children’s birthday parties she decided to take a cake decorating course in 1976.  After completing the course, Edda was asked if she would be interested in teaching and accepted the offer. Soon after, she began making cakes for family and friends from her home… and a business was born.

Edda’s unique artistic designs and signature Vanilla Rum cake drew in the customers.  Edda’s cakes were a hit.  Through word of mouth, and with a lot of hard work she made a name for herself.  After raising her children, Edda decided it was time to expand beyond the kitchen.  Her first retail cake store was opened in South Miami in 1992.  Since then Edda’s Cake Designs has grown into a South Florida institution opening retail stores in Doral and Pembroke Pines.
